What is a 3+1 sofa set?

A 3+1 sofa set is a three-seater sofa plus a matching single armchair, designed in the same range, fabric and colour. It seats up to four people and gives a room a complete, coordinated seating arrangement in one purchase.

What is the difference between a 3+1 and a 3+2 sofa?

Both start with a three-seater sofa. A 3+1 adds a single armchair; a 3+2 adds a two-seater sofa instead. A 3+1 takes up less floor space and gives one person their own chair, while a 3+2 offers more total seating but needs a larger room. As a rough guide, a 3+1 suits rooms from around 3.5m to 5m wide and a 3+2 generally wants 4.5m or more.

How much space do I need for a 3+1 set?

Most rooms that comfortably take a 3+1 are between 3.5m and 5m wide. Plan for the three-seater (170–220cm) against one wall with at least 80cm of walkway clearance, plus a separate spot for the armchair (90–110cm). Because the two pieces don't have to sit in a line, a 3+1 is flexible to lay out. Call us on 02476 705 600 if you'd like help planning the layout.

Can I buy the sofa and armchair separately?

The set is designed and priced to be bought together so the two pieces match exactly. If you only need one piece, browse our 3 seater sofas and armchairs separately, or call us on 02476 705 600 and we'll advise on the best option for your room.

Are 3+1 sofa sets available with recliners?

Yes. Our recliner 3+1 range includes electric and manual reclining sofa-and-chair sets, with each seat reclining independently. Leave clear space behind and in front of both pieces, as recliners extend well beyond their standard footprint when open.

Which material is best for a 3+1 set with pets or children?

Leather Aire or genuine leather is the most practical choice — pet hair brushes off and spills wipe down easily. For fabric, a tight weave is the best option. Avoid velvet if you have shedding cats or dogs, as the pile picks up pet hair readily.

What colours are available?

Every colour in our range is available across the set, so the sofa and armchair always match — including grey, cream, black, caramel, navy and more. Grey is our most popular choice. Call us on 02476 705 600 to ask about free fabric swatches before you order.

Will a 3+1 set fit through a standard UK front door?
