Which way the corner runs, and why it matters most

The decision that costs money if it goes wrong, because a corner sofa cannot be turned round once it is in the room. Left hand or right hand, explained simply

Stand where you will normally sit, usually facing the television, and look towards the sofa wall. If you want the chaise on your left as you face the sofa, that is a left hand design; on your right, a right hand one. Measuring, and the mistake people make

Measure both wall runs, not just the longer one. An L shape is usually asymmetrical, so the short side decides as much as the long side, and it is the measurement people skip. Getting it into the room

Corner sofas usually arrive in sections that connect together, which is why they clear doorways a large fixed sofa would not. What matters is the packaged dimension of the largest section against your narrowest point. The fabric

A grey woven fabric. The product title states fabric and nothing more specific, so that is how we describe it rather than naming a weave we cannot confirm. Fabric is warmer to sit on than leather and more forgiving in a family room, and grey is the kindest neutral to everyday marks. If the specification matters, ring us and we will check it. Care

Vacuum with an upholstery tool to lift dust from the weave rather than pushing it in, and blot spills from the outside inwards instead of rubbing. Keep the sofa out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. One thing specific to a corner: pay attention to the join between the sections, where crumbs collect.
